Grandma's Holiday French Toast

Serves: 6-8
Refrigerate overnight.
Bake 45 minutes @ 375 degrees.

1 Cup Brown Sugar
3 tsp. cinnamon (divided)
1/2 c. butter, melted
3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 c. dried cranberries or raisins
1 loaf French Bread (cut into 1" slices)
6 large eggs
1 1/2 c. milk
1T. vanilla extract

  2. Mix well, together: Butter, Apples, Cranberries.  Layer evenly on top of the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture.
  3. Arrange sliced bread on top of the apples.  Really jam them in there for one, tight layer.
  4. Mix: eggs, milk, vanilla, 2 tsp. cinnamon.  Pour over the bread, soaking COMPLETELY.
  5. Cover and refrigerate over night.
  6. MORNING: cover with buttered aluminum foil (so that it doesn't stick to the bake), and bake for 40 minutes.  Remove foil and bake for 5 more minutes.
SERVE:
To serve, it suggests inverting onto a warm plate.  OR, simply scoop out of pan, and make sure to flip over and top with yummy bottoms!
